1. The Saman tree is often called the Rain Tree because its leaves fold during rain, allowing water to pass through more easily, thus reducing the force of the rain on the ground below.

2. The leaves of the Saman tree exhibit nyctinasty, meaning they open and close in response to the light cycle. They open in the morning and close at dusk, a fascinating natural rhythm.

3. The oldest Saman tree is located in the town of Abangares in Costa Rica. This giant has a canopy spreading over an area of 50 meters in diameter!
